Explore Richies Kai

Tucked into the heart of Palmerston North at 66 Broadway Avenue, Richies Kai is the kind of spot that has earned a reputation among night owls and casual snackers alike. If you’re wandering the city streets late at night craving something fried and satisfying, this takeaway joint has you covered with its array of hot chips, classic munchies, and comfort food that hits the spot after a long day-or a night out. The vibe here leans on the old-school side, with an honest, no-frills feel that makes it approachable and familiar, while the staff are known for being genuinely friendly and welcoming, creating a warm atmosphere even when the place is buzzing. While the menu is heavy on classic fried options, there are some standout items for those looking for something a bit more refined, like the gluten-free burger that’s been praised for being both hearty and flavorful. The service is impressively quick, making it ideal for grab-and-go orders or when you just want something fast without compromising on that late-night satisfaction. Beyond its food offerings, the spot also features some surprisingly creative touches-like next-level coffee art for those popping in earlier in the day or for a caffeine boost alongside a snack. Seating is available inside, but given how busy the place can get, especially late at night, takeaway is often the preferred option. Whether you’re a local needing a reliable late-night feed or someone exploring Palmerston North who wants to try a genuine, down-to-earth eatery, Richies Kai delivers on both flavor and experience. With its combination of quick service, friendly staff, and that nostalgic takeaway charm, it has become a natural go-to for those who appreciate simple, well-prepared comfort food in a setting that’s easy to relax in. From satisfying fried classics to a few modern twists, there’s something for everyone stopping by on Broadway Avenue, keeping the joint a lively and dependable spot for late-night cravings and casual bites alike.

It is good for a midnight snaco or munch. Everything fried and good after a night out. They are very quick and the people are extremely nice. Food is okay, nothing ridiculously delicious but again good for that snack spot. You can eat inside but since it is usually so busy I would recommend takeaway!

Has a good honest old school feel about this takeaway joint plus its open late feeding the night owls of palmy. Only stopped in after mahi for some hot chips which were good but I will definitely stop here again in the future. The bro was friendly enough also. Definitely worth a visit imo.

Went in with the brother inlaw to get us a kai yesterday. We got 2x boxes of chips 2× chicken Thighs 1x box of chicken wings and heaps of fish. That was the best chicken we have had in town. The staff was great and the food was great, chips were fresh and crunchy.

Still the best fish and chips in palmerston north, been a while since visits as I live in gissy, but every warm bite brings nostalgia from a previous better time, Richie has always been able to serve the best meals with love and sow his positivity Into the presentation and into each bite. If you're hungry, wanna have a good feed that will bring back positive memories each time you visit, I can't recommend this venue enough
